MRC Funded PhD Studentship in Medical Statistics
The Division of Stroke Medicine has an active research interest in the design and analysis of clinical trials in stroke. Applications are now invited (UK/EU students eligible only - these studentships are not open to international students due to funding restrictions) for a three-year Medical Research Council (MRC) funded PhD studentship in medical statistics. Motivated by real clinical trial data, the project will involve the exploration, development and implementation of appropriate statistical methods for trials assessing the treatment and prevention of stroke. The project will focus on the ordinal analysis of stroke and vascular event data and encompass sample size estimation, time to event analyses and meta-analysis.
The student will also gain experience in handling data from ongoing trials and will support departmental colleagues with their statistical analyses.
Students must have a higher degree in medical statistics or related subject.
This studentship is fully funded by the MRC for a period of three years, and includes fees and a stipend of £12,940 in 2008/09. UK students are eligible for fees and stipend; EU students are eligible for fees only (no stipend) due to funding restrictions, unless they have been resident in the UK for three years. The studentship will be administered through the School of Medical and Surgical Sciences.
Further details are available from Professor P Bath, tel: 0115 823 1765.
Applications (preferably by Email), with a covering letter outlining research interests and experience to date, together with a detailed CV including degree classification (or expected results) and contact details (name, telephone number, postal and Email address) of two academic referees, should be sent to Hazel Sayers, Division of Stroke Medicine, The University of Nottingham, Clinical Sciences Building, City Hospital, Nottingham, NG5 1PB.
