The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bern is one of five medical
faculties in Switzerland. The Faculty’s Institute of Social and Preventive
Medicine (ISPM) provides under-graduate and post-graduate education and
carries out research in a range of disciplines relevant to Public Health.
ISPM offers a lively, interdisciplinary environment with excellent
computing and library facilities.
We are looking for an
Assistant / Associate Professor in Epidemiology
Applicants are expected to have an independent academic track record and
teaching experience, in one or several of the following areas: social
epidemiology, spatial epidemiology, health services research, cancer
epidemiology, radiation epidemiology.
Applicants should have a University degree and a PhD or equivalent training
in epidemiology. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and the initial
appointment is for four years with the possibilities of renewal for an
additional two-year period and of qualifying for a permanent position.
Start date is approximately October 1, 2008.
The successful candidate will develop and strengthen epidemiological
research within the framework of the Swiss National Cohort (see
www.swissnationalcohort.ch) and/or the Swiss Childhood Cancer Registry (see
www.childhoodcancerregistry.ch). Experience with the analysis of
longitudinal data sets is essential and experience with census-based
linkage studies or cancer registration would be an advantage.
