Dear EJ,
Sorry but I have only just picked this up so I hope that this is not too
late and that it might be useful. I am interested in being involved and
wondered if you had thought about drawing on the theoretical perspective
of video-based conversation analysis and discursive psychology. I work
in these fields and have done some participatory video training (at the
OU with Chris, Emily and co). One of the things that I was interested in
was, as you say in the bid, how can we bring different theoretical
perspectives to participatory video in order to enhance claims? I wonder
if it is worth thinking about a discursive- conversation analytic
framework/ using the workshops to invite people working within these
traditions. For me they are ideally suited to an exploration of concepts
like 'empowerment' as they enable one to conceptualise this as a process
- that is visible (it is captured in the video-tapes we make of people
participating in pv training) and, using the methodology of c.a/ d.a.,
analysable? Let you know what you think - I could write a paragraph on
this for the bid if you are interested and could send my c.v. However,
I would have to do it tonight for tomorrow as I am out this afternoon.
