Something else from last weekend that I forgot to mention in my reminder about the Durham mines mss...
A local outlet is selling a lot of what I assume are remaindered Shire series publications which I find deeply irritating because as per usual there are a multitude of titles on sale which cost a lot more to put on the bookshelves here including several of Martin Watts' excellent little millpower books and pamphlets. The pamphlets on The Salt Industry, Coal Mining, Ironworking, and the Gunpowder Industry are all there too. Still it encouraged me to experiment and I picked up a copy of the book on steam shovels by Peter Mankeltow ( not a good seller it would seem!) and a little bonus was Kenneth Wiggins' Siege Machines and Underground Warfare. I doubt very much that it is the only place with these so well worth watching out for!
