MeCCSA’s Race and Ethnicity Network
Those of you who attended the AGM earlier in the year will know that the
Executive Committee reported that the members who were involved in the
forming of the Race and Ethnicity network two years ago had had to stand
down. They were thanked by the AGM and the contribution by Ashwani Sharma,
University of East London, who had been a member of the Executive
Committee, was particularly noted. The Executive Committee is keen to
continue MeCCSA’s work in this area but recognises that our networks are
only effective when they are run by members who wish to get involved in a
particular area and do indeed network to set up and run local events as
well as sessions at the annual conference. This is not something that the
Executive Committee can impose from above.
We would be keen however to work with any members who are interested in
developing the work of the Race and Ethnicity network and offer full
support to help establish an effective section. This would involve working
together to think through the aims of such a section, to establish a
presence on the website and to develop a manageable programme of events
with an agreed budget. If you are interested in developing the network
and are a member of MeCCSA (ie your institution has membership or you are
an individual member), please do contact me at
