Fixed term for 3 years
Innovative knowledge resources are fast becoming an important part of the
National Library for Health (NLH), contributing to both medical education
and clinical practice. Resources such as the NLH Specialist Libraries are
being designed and developed locally as well as nationally, and the role of
librarians in supporting their development and uptake is central.
Based at the Royal Free Hospital Medical Library your main responsibility
will be to contribute to the successful running of two of the NLH Specialist
Libraries (see www.library.nhs.uk/gastroliver and
www.library.nhs.uk/neurological). In addition, you will contribute to the
outreach and information skills training programme and the Clinical
Effectiveness Enquiry Service.
You will be a professionally qualified graduate librarian with up-to-date
experience in the provision of health and medical library and information
services. You will have skills in finding, evaluating and using information,
both printed and electronic, including proven experience of conducting high
quality systematic literature searches and a knowledge and understanding of
the information needs of NHS clinical staff. Experience of delivering
information skills training in a healthcare or university setting and
experience of using personal bibliographic software would be an advantage.
This post is full time; a 36.5-hour week is worked on a shift system between
8.30am and 7.00pm Monday to Friday. Some early morning working and a regular
weekly late shift, as well as occasional Saturday working (between 9.00am
and 1.00pm) are required.
UCL Library Services offers a generous leave allowance and a final salary
pension scheme.
