I'd like to share with you a call for papers for an upcoming issue of the journal Sargasso (see below). This issue will be devoted to work on the Dominican Republic.

– CALL FOR PAPERS –
Quisqueya: La Republica Extended
submission deadline January 15, 2009
SARGASSO, a Journal of Caribbean Literature, Language, and Culture is accepting submissions for an upcoming issue with the title "Quisqueya: La Republica Extended."
The issue will feature work that in one way or another extends discussions of the literatures, cultures, and languages of the Dominican Republic. Research from fields of inquiry such as literature, culture studies, women’s studies, transatlantic studies, performance studies and other areas is welcome. Submissions in Spanish and English are encouraged.
Themes that might be addressed include, but are not limited to, the following:
–Women’s literature
–Migration
–Film & cinema
–Race & nationalism
–“Literary blackness”
–“Literary geography”
–Poetry & poetic knowledges
–The work of Junot Díaz
–The Dominican diaspora
–The Dominican Republic’s literary history
–Writing and indigenous culture
Essays should be 10-20 pages and double-spaced. Abstracts of 120 words or less should accompany essays. B & W photos, illustrations, and other graphics can be included. Book reviews and review essays of recent scholarship on the Caribbean are also welcome. They should be approximately 1,000 and 2,000 words in length, respectively.
Essays and reviews should conform to the MLA style guide. Electronic submissions, inquiries, and any questions can be mailed to: [log in to unmask] Electronic submissions should be sent as attachments in Word. Please indicate “Sargasso Submission” in the subject line.
Sargasso has been edited at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras for more than 20 years. The journal features work on the languages, literatures, and cultures of the Caribbean and its multiple diasporas.
