Dear Grant Potts et al
I take your point and can agree that the Caliphate has made a large
number of mss and sources available on the internet etc -
and so far, as a publisher - i haven't encountered too many issues -
although I am a publisher of material that would include new thelemic
writing rather than reprints of crowley material -
so i'm not really effected by any of this - yet.
But there are exceptions to this - as you must know - certain books that
were published in the
1970s are now out of print and cannot be reprinted -
they represent other diverse views on our history that will, if we are
not careful, be airburshed out.
Lets take a hypothetical scenario - in UK (and perhaps elsewhere) the
Caliphate OTO was not a player before the 1980s,
the history of Thelema here is represented by the views of other groups,
including Grant's Typhonian OTO. So books that record that experience
could and
probably already are falling foul of a desire to suppress their view of
things. Same might go for books by Francis King etc-
they would need to be censored to avoid copyright action from the
caliphate.
That to me amounts to suppresion of views. And watching how this has
played out over the years - it's likely to get worse before it gets better.
The latest COTO press release specifically mentions its new "critical
editions" and the implication that the old "defective" editions will not be
granted a license to republish. If you _know_ different then please say
- (For example - there are plenty who would prefer the Symonds / Grant
edition of Liber ABA)
BTW - I'm assuming that the earlier post from Keith Boyle is just his
interpretation and he is being "more Caliphate that the Caliphate" -
but its dangerous to given their accountant ideas ie :
"cOTO holds copyright on Book of the Law and is legally recognized as
the "true" lineage of the Thelemic current. As such, anyone who claims
to be a Thelemite needs to either be a part of the cOTO or finds
themselves in a questionable position.." Lets assume that isn't the COTO
position yet."
I know the COTO, perhaps the majority, is full of very nice people, such
as yourself - but in the end - they either have no influence or choose
not to exercise any.
"love and do what you will"
