Dear All
The Transport Research Institute, Edinburgh is currently involved in this
European wide project (DG TREN FP6 project PARAMOUNT), an initiative to
provide and support a practical transfer of knowledge in the field of
urban and regional transport in Europe.
The ELTIS website (http://www.eltis.org) now contains over 1000 case
studies covering all aspects of transport, detailing individual
projects/initiatives from around Europe, broadly divided into 13 main
categories;
Clean and energy-efficient vehicles
Cycling
Demand management and pricing
Flexible mobility services
Integration, intermodality, organisation of transport
Mobility management & Travel awareness
Public passenger transport
Safety and security
Traffic management
Transport and land use planning
Transport for people with reduced mobility
Urban goods traffic / city logistics
Walking
The website also contains daily updated news items (containing new policy
initiatives throughout Europe), links to reports, calls and tenders for
proposals/research funding and forthcoming European transport events and
conferences
Since mid 2007 (continuing until mid 2008), ELTIS has organised urban
transport training sessions for mid career transport professionals from
new member states, accession countries and new neighboring countries.
Details on the training including topics and dates and the application for
can be found on the ELTIS website.
Good practice guides, evaluation tools, practical guidelines and handbooks
that aim to support local policy makers on transport and mobility decision
making processes are also available on the website.
Links to many European transport sites are available, including access to
transport related teaching resources (recently updated) at http://www.eu-
portal.net/start.phtml?sprache=en
As such the ELTIS resource provides a valuable source of information for
researchers, lecturers and students alike.
We are continuing to add case studies to the site and would welcome
suggestions for further case studies that could be added. Case studies can
be added to the website (relatively easily), or you can send directly to
myself, and I will pass on to the relevant key topic expert.
Please take the time to look at the website, feel free to contribute and
if you wish to receive regular monthly ELTIS newsletters, subscription
(free) links are provided on the website or via the latest newsletter
available at http://www.eltis.org/Newsletter.phtml?id=1309.
Please circulate this e-mail to any colleagues, or students.
Many thanks
Michael
