Hello again fellow chairs!
I renew my request below, regarding possible participation by section
representatives in the mentioned round table session on sports archives.
Especially since the organisers/the programme committee of the congress are
asking for the names of speakers in the session.
As mentioned below, there will be two representatives from the SPO Bureau
(myself and Mr Thiam) and possibly one from a local sports organisation. Thus,
there would still be room for 1-2 other speakers.
Please reply as soon as possible, if you could have a speaker in mind.
Immediately I could think of sections like SBL and SIO, that could have one or
two things in common with SPO, but why not also SAR, SMA and SPA to a certain
extent. The speakers would not necessarily need to prepare any long
presentation, but to prepare a few comments from the perspective of their own
field related to sports archives.
Best wishes,
Kenth Sjöblom

Dear fellow chairs of sections - permanent as well as provisional ones!
ICA-SPO is arranging a round table session during the congress in Kuala Lumpur,
on the subject "Sports archiving - current and future challenges", about which
you can find further details on the congress website.
As the bureau of SPO met a couple of weeks ago, we discussed about how to carry
out this session. Since the section doesn´t have any money to spend, we can´t
afford to invite (and pay for) guest speakers to the session. We then came to
think of the idea to invite representatives of the other sections - since quite
a few will come to KL anyway - to the round table discussion, in order to see
how SPO and other sections could cooperate in developing and raising awareness
about sports archives and tackle the challenges related to them.
Our idea is, that session could consist of a few introductory presentations,
prepared in advance, and then the floor would be open for debate and discussion.
As chair of the section (and session?), I would open with some general remarks
on the situation and challenges ahead, and Mr Mbaye Thiam, member of our bureau,
would speak from an African perspective.
We now invite the sections to think of possible/suitable/willing candidates to
participate in the round table session, and to inform me as soon as possible.
The prepared introductions to the subject would not need to be longer than
about 10 minutes.
Looking forward to hear your comments and your willingness to cooperate,
Kenth Sjöblom
