What is written in the Matlab window? There should be an error message or at least a warning meassage which might help here. Are you perhaps using different Matlab versions?
But you still can look at already specified contrasts, isn't it?

> Could it be that - for what reason whatsoever - your result directory (or the files in it) are write protected? (Perhaps through copying across machines, platforms, user-accounts, etc.). Than this behaviour would be normal. Also mixing SPM2 and SPM5 is not generally a good idea, but that might not cause the problem here.
