POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN CATHOLIC STUDIES
St. Thomas More College, the Catholic liberal arts college federated with the
University of Saskatchewan, invites applications for a one-year Post-Doctoral
Fellowship beginning Fall 2008, with renewal possible for one additional year. The
field of specialization is Catholic Studies. The Fellowship is open to applicants
from the following disciplines: Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, English,
French, History, Philosophy, Political Studies, Psychology, Religious Studies,
Sociology, Theology, and related disciplines.
The Fellowship is part of a larger initiative at St. Thomas More to expand its
current Catholic Studies courses into an interdisciplinary program in Catholic
Studies. Building on the College's strengths in several disciplines related to the
Catholic intellectual tradition, a working group of faculty at STM is preparing a
proposal for a Minor in Catholic Studies. The program will also include a new core
course introducing students to the academic study of Catholicism - its history,
culture, thought, and place in the modern world. The new course and Minor program
will be submitted for University approval in Fall 2008. The program is expected to
welcome its first students in September 2009.
The STM Post-Doctoral Fellow will be welcomed into the St. Thomas More College
community. The Fellowship pays a stipend of $45,000 CAD and provides an allowance
of $5000 CAD for research, conference travel, and moving expenses. The Fellowship
carries with it office space, library privileges, internet access, and use of
College facilities. No teaching will be required of the Fellow in 2008-09, so that
he/she can devote as much time as possible to scholarly work. The Fellow will join
the College's Advisory Committee on Catholic Studies and take part in discussions
about the core course and the role of Catholic Studies in the academic life of
Catholic colleges today. The Fellow will give two presentations to faculty and
students of the College during the academic year.
Applicants must have successfully completed all requirements for their PhD by the
date of appointment. Applicants should send an application letter, CV, and a brief
description (1000 words) of the research to be undertaken during the Fellowship
year. In addition, applicants must arrange to have three current letters of
recommendation sent to St. Thomas More College, Office of the Dean.
Review of applications will begin on May 26, 2008. Send all materials to:
Catholic Studies Post-Doctoral Fellowship Committee, Chair
St. Thomas More College
437 College Drive
Saskatoon, SK S7N 0W6
