Dear Colleague
I am part of a team at the Applied Criminology Centre, University of
Huddersfield, conducting a review of the evidence relating to how to
tackle the demand for prostitution. Specifically, we are interested in
the following research questions:
1. Numbers of, characteristics and demographics of those who
procure sex;
2. Context(s) and settings for procuring sex;
3. Drivers and motivations for procuring sex;
4. Whether reasons for procuring are related to situation and
context;
5. What would deter and/or hinder those who procure sex (e.g.
criminal sanctions; situational measures; health-related issues; social
issues; disclosure of their behaviour; family / peer pressure, etc)?;
and
6. What works in tackling the demand for prostitution?
As we are very keen to access as wide a range of relevant material as
possible, we wondered if you would be able to help by directing us to
any other published articles/books, as well unpublished
reports/conference papers which you think might be relevant (whether
written by yourself or a colleague). We would also be grateful if you
could suggest who else we might contact in this regard (i.e. other
authors/researchers who specialise in this area).
We understand that you have many other demands on your time, but hope
that you will be able to spare a few moments to help with this important
endeavour. As the review is due to be completed in a few weeks, if you
are able to help, we would appreciate it if you could do so by the 12th
May (next Tuesday) . To summarise, we are interested in:
1. Details of any published or unpublished materials relating to the
demand for prostituion; and
2. The names of other individuals (authors or researchers) working in
this field.
Thank you.
Best wishes
Kris Christmann
