Hello Daniela,
I´m working also with some species from Schmidt, so I agree partially
with your statement "is anything but meaningful". On my group Agelas,
I discovered that Schmidt´s eye for valid species is amazing, doesn't
matter that after he took a choice, didn't bothered to make a
meaningful description. Not the typical germane guy.
I found that is really useful to ask not only for the specimen you
look for, ask also for sp specimens under the same genus name. I am
also looking for a schmidt`s type (Chalinopsis cervicornis) and know
for sure that museums that have Schmidt`s specimens are:
Zoologisk Museum København in Copenhagen
British Natural History Museum in London,
Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris
National Museum of Natural History in Washington
Museum of Comparative Zoology in Cambridge.
If you write to them, I'm sure the curators from these museums
(special acknowledge), will answer your question fast, precise and
efficient as in my case.
By the way, is there any recent compilation of the porifera holotypes
whereabouts list?
Cheers
