Because that was one of Stevens remarks. I suppose this now marks
with darkness his entire oeuvre. Personally, I'm struggling to think
of an artist who hasn't got clay-feet, including the self-confessed
boy-fancier Benjamin Britten. The only artists who may be pure are
those whose histories are blank.
