Of the lives I know nothing. I know a piece of trivia: Swann wrote an
arrangement of some songs of Tolkein's called "The Road Goes Ever On",
my dad used to have a copy of the sheet music although I've no idea
why as it was never played or sung in my house. A couple of Flanders
and Swann tunes are still well-loved, and the folk memory of them is
apparently still strong enough for the comedians Armstrong and Miller
to have sent them up reasonably effectively in a recent TV sketch show
(see also this: http://www.union.ic.ac.uk/medic/fitness/ ).
Personally I prefer Tom Lehrer, which is probably treasonably
unpatriotic of me but so.
