Last week, before we read at Leicester University, I was talking with
the Catalan poet Josep Vicent, and he was telling me how, despite the
fact that his book had won the premier poetry prize in Catalonia, and,
though he gets invited to read at occasions like the Frankfurt Book
Fair as a result, his publishers by themselves do absolutely nothing
to market his work. So, he has resorted to making power-point type
video of himself reading, and he has had tee-shirts made, each adorned
with different poems of his.
'In Catalonia', he said, 'everyone makes tee-shirts'.
(he also added that you have to advertise if you want to become
someone nowadays. I didn't say anything about any Financial Theory of
the Self)
