UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE
Department of Public Health and Primary Care
GENERAL PRACTICE AND PRIMARY CARE RESEARCH UNIT (GPPCRU)
RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Qualitative researcher - ProActive follow-up
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) School for Primary Care Research at the University of Cambridge is recruiting a Research Assistant to join a multidisciplinary team.
The researcher will be part of a large ProActive follow-up study being coordinated jointly within the GPPCRU and the MRC Epidemiology Unit, Institute of Metabolic Science, Addenbrooke's Hospital. It will investigate the lasting influence of an earlier high-profile project, which was designed to promote physical activity amongst healthy people identified as being at risk of developing diabetes.
The follow-up study will consist of three interrelated components: collecting physiological data; exploring a range of psychological measures using questionnaires; and conducting qualitative interviews. The full-time post holder will be central in this last component, which is designed to explore participants' ideas of health and wellbeing, and how these relate to issues of physical activity and being identified as at risk of developing Type II diabetes.
Applicants should have a good first degree in a relevant subject (such as sociology, social anthropology or psychology), be able to demonstrate qualities of flexibility, good organisational and communication skills, computer literacy and be able to work to deadlines. We seek a team player, able to play a key role in the primary care research in the Unit.
Salary: £22,332-£25,135
Limit of tenure: 2 year fixed term contract
Closing date 26 May 2008
