Ofcom's Tom Loosemore to be keynote speaker at UK Museums on the Web
2008
The MCG's affordable annual one-day conference at the University of
Leicester on June 19 has attracted a strong international list of
speakers. That list is headed by one of the most influential digital
media thinkers in the UK; Tom Loosemore, formerly of the BBC, now Senior
Advisor, Digital Media Strategy, OFCOM.
The recent OFCOM report started an interesting thread for debate:
there's been a pretty vast amount of money invested in the cultural web
over the last ten years or so. In spite of that, there's still little in
the way of coherent digital infrastructure across our different cultural
sectors (tourism, education, leisure arts, higher education, museums,
galleries, archives, libraries) and scant agreement between government
departments, institutions or funders about what 'public service new
media' is, and what criteria for success there could be.
And yet...the OFCOM report opens a window to a slightly different
dialogue about all this. At UKMW 08, we're always keen to bring in
comment and creativity from outside the museum and gallery arena, and so
we're thrilled to welcome a speaker of Tom's calibre to the conference.
Also speaking will be George Oates - a Brit, and one of the leading
theorists at Flickr in the US; Lee Iverson from the University of
British Columbia and Paul Marty from Florida State University.
On June 19 we're expecting around 100 people from all over the UK - and
beyond. Book your place now - see you in Leicester!
