Hello all,
Here at the Library in the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, we
replaced our Circulation Desk with self-service borrowing and returning and
merged all our other Desk Services in the last academic year.
This enabled us to introduce a Roving Support Service and staff now support
library users at point of need i.e. at PCs, in the shelves, at photocopiers
etc as well as from a Desk.
We are currently reviewing the past academic year and planning for the
coming one. I am interested in hearing from other libraries that may have
developed similar models or are thinking of developing similar models. In
particular I am interested in how your Roving Support Model is developing?
How many hours do your staff rove, both during the day and per shift? When
on duty do they carry out any other duties apart from roving?
If you have any questions let me know.
Please send all replies to my email address directly.
I look forward to your comments.
Regards,
Mary.
