Jacques Rancičre, Emeritus Professor, Université de Paris VIII, and
Peter Sloterdijk, Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Philosophy and Media
Theory, Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung, Karlsruhe, will share a
platform to discuss Aesthetics in Modernity, at the University of
Warwick's Arts Centre Conference Room, Tuesday May 20th, 3.00 - 5.00
pm. This is a chance to hear two leading continental thinkers and
public intellectuals debating the aesthetic both as a way of
understanding the modern world and as a problematic category within
that world. The event promises a confrontation of German and French
traditions and modes of thought in assessing the role of the aesthetic
in the digitalised and globalised world. The debate is sponsored by the
Social Theory Centre, The Centre for Research in Philosophy, Literature
and the Arts, the Institute of Advanced Studies, and the Department of
French Studies at Warwick University, and is free. Informal inquiries
can be directed to Professor Seán Hand, Head of Department of French
Studies, University of Warwick, [log in to unmask]
