GLOBAL SOCIAL POLICY MASTERS. APPLICATIONS NOW BEING CONSIDERED
PLEASE INFORM FINISHING UNDERGRADUATES
Professor Bob Deacon, founding editor of the journal Global Social Policy, and
Director of the Globalism and Social Policy Programme (www.gaspp.org) is
pleased to announce that the University of Sheffield is to launch in October
2008 a new Masters degree programme in Global Social Policy.
The masters course develops academic and technical skills that will enable
students to think critically about global social policy formulation and
implementation and gain an understanding of the role and function of
international agencies in tackling social problems at global, national, and
local levels.
While Professor Deacon and his colleagues (Shana Cohen, David Phillips, Kevin
Farnsworth, Zoe Irving, Paul Knepper) will teach the core modules of the
masters, the course itself will include guest lecturers and speakers from the
World Bank, ILO, WHO, UNDP, UNESCO, ISSA, and INGOs and global social
movements.
The course will also help to arrange placements in these agencies for
dissertation research and practical experience.
Full details of this exciting new programme can be accessed on the
Department of Sociological Studies website:
