Check out the extensive, and excellent, work of Clara Greed, who is also
an active member of the WTO, that's the other WTO......the World Toilet
Organisation (really).
There's a lot of stuff out there, especially on the lack of access to
any toilet provision in the global south. There is an article in The
Guardian Weekly (March 21-27, 2008) entitled "The Cinderella problem:
thousands die every day for lack of sanitation" by John Vidal, in which
he states that more than 2.5 billion people still have no safe place to
go to the toilet but with sanitation being such an unsexy topic donors
are not attracted to it, but check out the work of agencies such as
Water Aid and Tearfund.
