Hi all,
I am convening a panel on the encounter of China and the West for the
International Studies Association annual conference 2009. This panel
expects to address issues related to the inter-relations of
Chineseness and Western-ness -- How China views the West and how the
West views China in a specific empirical contxt, for example, the
recent overseas Chinese protest against CNN/BBC; the debate of
China-centrism vs. Euro-centrism in Chinese Studies; how Japan, Korea,
Taiwan, Okinawa, Tibet reconcile their Chineseness and
non-Chineseness; the concept of 'China' in the English literature and
the concept of 'West', 'Europe', 'America' in the Chinese
academia...etc.
This panel welcomes any abstract related to the central theme of China
and the West -- the final shape of the panel will depend on the
abstracts, of course. Please could you email your abstract to
[log in to unmask], or just to express your interest in
participating. The internal deadline is 27th of May (Tue) as the
official deadline for ISA is 30th.
Many thanks!
Best regards,
Wei
