Cambridgeshire Archives and Local Studies require two Archives Assistants to join a small but busy team at the Cambridgeshire Archives at Shire Hall. Your main role will be providing service to customers using our public searchroom including assisting with research and producing documents from our strongrooms; using a range of historical records to answer research enquiries and helping to provide a friendly and efficient reception service greeting customers, issuing readers tickets and answering the phone.
The office is staffed by a small, friendly team comprising one Senior Archivist and two Archives Assistants. This additional post will provide valuable support in operating the public service.
You will be educated to a minimum of GCSE level or equivalent with experience of IT systems and working with people. Ideally you will have experience of working with archives and an interest in local and family history. You will possess a calm and friendly manner and the ability to provide excellent customer care. Good written and oral communication skills are essential together with the ability to work well as part of a team. You will need to be physically fit to help shelve and retrieve documents.
