They are reminiscent (except for being charred, of course!) of some dried
Morus alba fruits someone (Frances McLaren?) once brought to an
Archaeobotany Work Group meeting I organised in York many years ago; if
dried prior to being charred one might expect they wouldn't explode the way
fresh fruits surely would. Just a thought...
