Statistics Programme Leader
Salary: £30k - £65k Location : South East
Purpose
My client is developing statistical capabilities at their Global Science Centre with particular emphasis on sensometrics (statistical analysis of Sensory and Consumer Guidance data). This position will lead statistical expert support as well as support projects on a global basis. This support will primarily be to the Consumer Science colleagues and its clients in the areas of sensory analysis, consumer testing and modelling of sensory, consumer and analytical data. The job holder will be accountable to lead the GSC team in developing a vision, embedding statistics throughout Europe, and to collaborate with our USA colleagues to further develop the use of the discipline within our global organization. The job holder will also be working as a team member across a variety of projects of strategic importance, leading the statistical role and using advanced statistical tools to provide guidance and clear interpretation of the results. They will also provide general assistance to the GSC in the areas of the Design of Experiments and clinical data analysis, as required. The job holder will directly manage a statistician and mentor other practitioners and users of statistics at the Global Science and other parts of the business, as required.
Accountabilites
Lead the provision of statistical support
Mentor other practitioners and users of statistical techniques
Have dotted line reporting and co-ordinate with the Lead Statistician
Lead development, implementation and maintenance of statistical tools and software
Set rolling annual SCG statistical research programme.
Ensure that statistical elements of projects are designed, managed, reported and delivered to meet the needs of clients, to required standards and within agreed timescales.
Establish and maintain good relationships with clients, project team members and category colleagues, ensuring a high standard of service through partnership.
Establish and maintain relationships with outside agencies and suppliers of statistical services.
Develop the scientific capabilities of the department by keeping abreast of external developments in the field.
Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental Quality Assurance Procedures
Pre-Requisites
In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have:
Masters in statistics or equivalent with a good track record of experience in application of advanced statistical methods in sensory/consumer research or equivalent.
In-depth knowledge of multivariate methods such as PCA and PLS.
Working knowledge of traditional statistical analysis methods (such as ANOVA and multiple regression) is a must.
Experience with SAS for data management and statistical analysis is highly desirable.
Experience in other statistical packages (Simca, Umetrics, SPSS, Statgraphics, Design-Ease) is a plus.
Experience in clinical trials is desirable but not required.
Good familiarity with sensory and consumer research methods.
Ability to listen and to communicate clearly are essential.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and be flexible in time schedule.
Ability to coach and mentor statistical team members and users of statistics.
Experience in the food and beverage areas would be an advantage.
The role requires team leadership and line management skills, with the ability to be pro-active and deliver through delegation. The role holder must have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and work as part of a team with colleagues of all levels. The job holder will have experience of leading and delivering through project teams and be familiar with project management tools. The job holder must have good oral and written communication skills and be organised, methodical yet creative in their approach to work. They must have the ability to plan and organise a work programme.
