JOB TITLE: Assistant Statistician
JOB LOCATION: Colworth, Bedfordshire
SALARY RANGE: £20000 - £28000 plus other benefits
With a business as large and high profile as Unilever's, there are always opportunities to innovate. Unilever's laboratories at Colworth cover Biosciences, Foods and Safety & Environment, leading to a range of challenging projects for the statisticians.
We are currently looking for new recruits for our Statistics Group, which provides statistical consultancy across the Unilever Colworth laboratories, working closely in project teams with scientists. We tackle a wide variety of applications including design and analysis of laboratory experiments, consumer trials, human studies (physiological and psychological), environmental and safety studies and statistical genetics.
The people we are looking for will work with senior colleagues to manage the statistical content of projects, deciding on appropriate design and analysis approaches, performing the analyses and presenting and reporting the results. Methodology development and improvement is also an important part of our role, as we are committed to expanding the statistical capabilities of our group. We are committed to developing our staff and you will be given ample opportunity for personal development through appropriate training courses.
Who should apply? We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated people with excellent communication skills. You should ideally have a post-graduate qualification in statistics or equivalent. Any knowledge of areas such as clinical/human studies, epidemiology or Bayesian analysis techniques would be a benefit. Good IT skills are essential as is knowledge of a major statistics package such as SAS or S-plus.
The Colworth Laboratory is located within a country estate near the village of Sharnbrook in rural Bedfordshire, just 60 miles North of London.
