Senior Statistician
Salary: Grade 7 (£28,290 - £33,780 per annum)
Contract: Fixed-term (3 years initially), Full-time

The North East Public Health Observatory is one of nine regional Public
Health Observatories in England. Public Health Observatories respond to
regional and local health intelligence needs, and collectively produce key
national outputs. Public Health Observatories' main tasks include
monitoring health and disease trends and highlighting areas for action;
identifying gaps in health information; advising on methods for health
equity audits and health impact assessments; drawing together information
from different sources in new ways to improve health; carrying out projects
to highlight particular health issues; evaluating progress by local
agencies in improving health and cutting inequality; looking ahead to give
early warning of future public health problems. NEPHO has the lead for
three key areas; Mental Health, Offender Health, and Europe &
International.

We are seeking to recruit a well experienced individual to support and
direct the statistical advice of projects within the organisation,
including analysis of Hospital Episode Statistics and the Department of
Health’s Strategic Health Planning and Evaluation (SHAPE) programme.
The post is located in the Stockton-on-Tees campus of the University of
Durham.
This post is fixed term for three years in the first instance.
Please note that as part of the current 3 year pay agreement the salary
scale for this post will increase by 2.5% in October 2008. Please see

The post is subject to standard probationary terms. Further information
will be issued in the contract of employment.
