Thanks to all who replied to my question regarding using Philip
Dawid's (conditional) independence symbol in Word.
I found Brian Francis's solution best for me. Here it is
"I assume you mean the independence symbol? It can be entered
by using unicode (see help UNICODE) - by typing
U+2568 and then pressing ALT+X. You then need to lower the symbol by using
format>font>Character Spacing> Position (lowered by 3pt)."
