Division of Epidemiology, Public Health and Primary Care
The Division of Epidemiology, Public Health and Primary Care (EPHPC) is offering one 4-year and one 3-year MRC funded studentships to start in October 2008. Applications are invited from highly motivated candidates with a degree in a relevant discipline.
One 4-year and one 3-year UK/EU PhD Studentships (MRC Funded)
The Division has one 4-year and one 3-year Capacity Building Studentship funded by the MRC. The studentship will pay UK/EU tuition fees and a stipend of £16,700. The studentships are available to UK nationals or EU nationals, who have lived in the UK for at least three years immediately preceding the date of an award. Owing to funding restrictions applications from overseas candidates cannot be considered.
4 year project:
Biostatistical modelling of genetic and environmental correlates of growth patterns leading to obesity.
The project will involve analysis of data from the Northern Finland Birth Cohort studies of individuals born during 1966 and 1986, whose health has since been followed up and genetic data are now also becoming available. The successful applicant will have a degree in Statistics or a related subject such as mathematics, computer science or population genetics. The first year of the studentship can include taking the MSc in Modern Epidemiology. 3-year project:
Bayesian multivariate space-time models for small-area epidemiological studies investigating risk factors for emerging diseases
The successful candidate will be strongly motivated and capable of independent work and will have a degree in Statistics or a related subject with application to Health research and a MSc in a related area or equivalent experience. All students will belong to the Graduate School of Life Sciences and Medicine which provides a full programme of training in research and transferable skills. Students will be based in the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health within the Division of EPHPC.
