Salary £22,631-£29,528 (placement on scale will be commensurate with
experience)
A full-time Information Officer is needed to join the International
Information Unit at the National Foundation for Educational Research
(NFER) in Slough. The post is offered for one year in the first instance,
but there is a strong likelihood that it will become permanent. The
International Information Unit hosts the Eurydice Unit for England, Wales
and Northern Ireland in Eurydice, the EU’s information network on
education in Europe. The Unit also manages the International Review of
Curriculum and Assessment Frameworks (INCA) Internet Archive, and monitors
and coordinates international opportunities for the NFER.
We are looking for a graduate, with a keen interest in education policy in
the UK and overseas, and excellent written and verbal communication
skills. Information and library skills would also be a distinct
advantage. He or she will also have a sound understanding of ICT;
knowledge of at least one other European language; and an interest in
online databases and web-based information systems.
The successful candidate will be an adaptable team player who is able to
respond well under pressure and pay appropriate attention to detail. He
or she will be required to:
• Classify, catalogue, abstract and index documents for the Unit’s
information collection.
• Scan websites, journals and other sources for relevant information.
• Provide written and verbal answers to enquiries on education
policy and structures, often to tight deadlines.
• Research and write articles for the Unit’s international current
awareness bulletin Education in the News.
• Assist in updating web-based databases.
• Provide support for other information- and research-based
activities within the Unit and the NFER.
