Dear Mr Welch
One of the rules of written electronic communication is that you really
shouldn't write when you're angry. Equally however, there are times when
rules are there to be broken. I will do my best to remain vaguely civil.

When people read through email, one of the things that they will often do is
to read the subject of the email before anything else. I'm surely that I
don't need to remind you that we're also living in a dangerous, difficult
world. I'm really just wondering therefore quite which bit of your mind was
engaged when you decided to send out an email to a large group of people
with the word 'Explosion' in capital letters.

Is this some strange new sales technique that I'm not aware of, perhaps? If
so, may I point out that it's really not sensible to try to sell your
company or its products in such a fashion. I'm obviously missing something
here though - perhaps you could explain why you thought it was such a good
idea - clearly your intention was to draw people's attention with both the
use of the word and the capitalization. I wonder if we've really come this
low with sales and marketing? This is quite simply, appalling. Did you give
a seconds thought to the people who may be recovering from explosions, or
who have loved ones who have been in them? Or who are concerned about such
things? Or who have loved ones abroad?

I really hope that I'm over reacting and am making a mountain out of a
molehill, but I do think this is really, really bad. It does not reflect
well on you, nor on your organization. Unfortunately I'm not one of your
customers, because if I was I could at least cancel my subscription in
protest. However, since I am not, I will have to content myself with saying
that I never will be one of your customers and will do my best to ensure
that no-one I work with becomes one.

Phil Bradley.
