College, University of London http://www.jobs.ac.uk/jobs/SL070/

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Open University has just advertised a permanent lectureship in
Classical Studies, as follows:
Lectureship in Classical Studies, Faculty of Arts
Available from 1 October 2008 (or as soon as possible thereafter), based
in Milton Keynes
£34,793 – £41,545
You will have a good first degree (or equivalent) in Classics, Classical
Studies, Ancient History, Classical Archaeology or a related subject. You
will also have, or will be about to obtain, a doctoral degree, and will
have a record of published research, or evidence of forthcoming
publications, and firm plans for future research. We have a preference for
someone with expertise in visual/material culture, but the position is
open to people with a research specialism in any area of Classical
Studies. You will be expected to teach across a range of areas other than
your research specialism, including Greek and/or Latin language.
An understanding of the nature of the Faculty’s courses and of the needs
of adult learners is desirable. The Faculty has a strong commitment to
collective working in teaching and research and we encourage applications
from those who want to work in such a culture.
Closing date: 23 May 2008.
Interview date: 17 July 2008.
Further particulars and application forms are available at
www3.open.ac.uk/employment. For informal discussion contact the Head of
PROJECT OFFICER – NOTTINGHAM URBAN ARCHAEOLICAL DATABASE
£18,907 - £20,736 PA
Temporary for 14 months
Waterworks Building, Brewhouse Yard, Nottingham
Nottingham City Museums & Galleries, working in partnership with English
Heritage, are seeking to establish an in-depth Urban Archaeological
database for the historic city centre. This will be a vital tool for the
future management of the city’s archaeological heritage.
As the Project Officer, you will review the initial project brief and make
any necessary changes in conjunction with the management team, before
commencing with the data collection and entry.  You will have an
understanding of British archaeology within an urban setting, experience
of archaeological database systems and knowledge of how they can be
combined with layered GIS mapping.
You will also have research and communication skills, be able to work to
deadlines, be consistent in your data entry descriptions and will be self
motivated. As the City does not have an existing SMR or HER database, you
will have a big part to play in shaping the future archaeological
planning, management and research within the city.  Training in particular
software packages will be provided. Ref: LC3532
For informal enquiries only (following receipt of job pack), please
contact Ann Inscker on (0115) 9153620.
