MRC Capacity Building PhD Studentship, University of Manchester.
Predictive modelling of infertility treatment data and its use in informing treatment policy
The School of Community Based Medicine is inviting applications for a three-year MRC Capacity Building PhD studentship commencing from September 2008. Funder restrictions imply that the studentship is open to UK/EU nationals only. Appropriate applicants will receive a full stipend in addition to payment of tuition fees.
Supervisors Andrew Pickles and Steve Roberts
This PhD project will utilise a number of large, rich, datasets from IVF clinics to investigate the use of complex statistical modelling to predict the outcomes of infertility treatments. The intention is to develop and implement modelling methodology that will be of value across a range of policy decisions, from risk assessment to economic evaluation. The project will involve a mix of statistical modelling, development of statistical methodology and simulation studies and will require the development of good statistical computation skills.
Applicants should hold, or expect to obtain, a first or upper second-class honours degree in a relevant subject with strong methodological content such as statistics, econometrics or exceptionally social/psychological/physical science.
