decade later the high-street norm is 1GB & 0.5 TB.

That was more in Dave Rawlinson's and Chris Clayton's domain. I could
have a rummage around, but it might be more efficient to ask on the
System managers List. Wasn't it just largely a script that ran
representative Starlink applications to generate a STARmark figure of
merit when comparing new hardware options?
