Thank you for passing this on, Anne. I met him only once, when I sat next to
him at my very first Spenser Society luncheon at my very first MLA in my very
first year on the job market, but I haven't forgotten how graciously he
welcomed me into the circle there and how valuable it was to me at that
particular moment to be made comfortable by someone whose scholarship I
admired so much.
