**On behalf of the Forum for Archives and Records Management in Education and Research (FARMER)**
**With apologies for cross-posting**
FARMER is the umbrella group for the UK universities currently offering qualifications in Archives and/or Records Management. FARMER has noted with interest the discussions within the Records Management Society re a proposal to offer personal accreditation schemes for its members and to provide an accreditation scheme for qualifications in Records Management.
FARMER has no wish to interfere in internal matters of any membership society and makes no comment on the steps concerning personal accreditation, other than to note that universities will monitor developments in this area in so far as they impact upon our students. However, we do wish to make it known that, to the best of our knowledge, no university or collective group of those providing qualifications in Records Management has been formally consulted by the Records Management Society concerning the accreditation of programmes in Records Management or related subjects. For any such accreditation scheme to be possible the active participation of universities will be required. To that end we look forward to an open dialogue between FARMER members and the Records Management Society in due course and suggest that a dialogue which includes those bodies already providing accreditation to the programmes offered by FARMER members would be especially worthwhile.
