Fabulous listening! or should I say 'It's fab!" When the Stones or Beatles
issued a record it was a signal for more partying. I grew up in Liverpool!
I am so lucky - I enjoy a wide variety of music first time round or not...
and I am certainly not counting days to retirement, never have; never will!
Nor will I equate getting a PhD with being more wise or knowledgeable than
not - Einstein had no PhD, nor Newton. With restrictions on how they could
have presented their knowledge it's unlikely they'd have got one if they'd
tried - but - a major 'BUT' - this is not to devalue getting any doctorate.
I wonder what other people think on this list? Is getting a PhD more about
showing you can get an HE qualification than developing original knowledge?
Are there circumstances where having 'a PhD' is a drawback and being a
'Dr.' is seen as academic snobbery? 'S/he's not a real doctor; it's just a
name!'
Is there too much emphasis placed on having a doctorate as a rite of passage
in academe and now that so many institutions offer a doctorate is there a
danger that standards might fall - especially as tutors in higher education
are increasingly pressured to meet recruitment targets? What do you think?
warm regards,
Sarah
PS just going to switch on Rolled Gold - even Marks n' Sparks sells Stones!
