True, Roger, but I sometimes wonder how many of its professional
practitioners take it seriously either. And as for the Arts Council,
Local Literature Development Officers and the rest, well ...
All is not lost for the cause of High Culture though, attention all
Vorticists, what follows is the latest update from Market Harborough,
from its Arts Officer (bless her):

Calling All Stitchers to a Festival of Stitch
On Saturday May 10th Market Harborough Embroiderers' Guild is hosting
a 'Festival of Stitch' at Robert Smyth School, Burnmill Road, Market
Harborough from 10am to 4.00pm.
This event sees members from all branches of the Guild in the East
Midlands' Region coming together for a day devoted to stitch. There
will be exhibitions of work from Embroiderers' Guild, Robert Smyth
students and local textile groups, competitions, trade stands, sales
tables, textile tombola and a raffle with some great prizes.
Refreshments will be available too. In the afternoon there will be an
illustrated talk by embroiderer and collector, Caroline Crabtree, who

There will be ample opportunity for some retail therapy with traders
selling threads, knitting yarns, art materials, beads & textile
goodies, patchwork fabrics, metal threads, silk fabrics, soluble
materials etc.
This Festival is open to the public and we invite all those with an
interest in stitch to come along to enjoy this first for Harborough.
