Are you able to put this plea on UKCaving.com? If not, would you like me to
do it on your behalf? There are quite a few cavers very interested in
Derbyshire mines on there.

Can anyone help?
We have recently become aware through the good offices of Martin
Critchley and Richard Shaw that four glass slides were sold on E-Bay.
These slides were described as being "Out Rake Mine". Two of them showed
an Engine House. One of the shots showed two engine houses and two
chimneys whilst the other showed just one engine house. The other two
slides showed two miners. In one of these slides the larger, stout miner
appeared to be about to lower another smaller miner down a shaft using a
stows. On the other slide the same two gentlemen were shown operating a
hand powered crusher.
Having seen the E-Bay page of these slides, it has become apparent that
the engine houses shown are those at High Rake, whilst the two miners
are recognised as Derbyshire men by Jim Rieuwerts.
We have been working at High Rake excavating and preserving the site for
the last eight years, and in fact, we finished the project today.
Unfortunately, details of the sale reached us too late to enable us to
do anything about the sale.
This is a desperate plea - Has anyone on the List purchased these
slides? Or do you know anyone who has? If so, please get in touch with
us, we would love to get at least a good copy of these pictures.
Having finished at High Rake Mine, we will be turning our attention to
Silence Mine at Grindlow, where there is a Community Project to
transform a derelict piece of ground into a nature reserve and a
community asset. Part of the site contains the demolished remains of an
engine and boiler house dating from the 1860's. Our part of the project
is to excavate and conserve the mine site.
Cheers, Dave Williams
