Recognizing creative practice as research has become an area of hot debate
in the arts and humanities. The School of Creative Arts, Film and Media at
the University of Porstmouth are very pleased to announce that Professor
Robin Nelson will be giving an invited talk in which he will outline a
model for practice as research. Prof. Nelson will draw upon his experience
in supervising and examining PaR PhDs and his work with the Practice as
Research in Performance (PARIP) and AVPhD initiatives to gain acceptance
for 'practice as research' in the contemporary university context. He will
share his model for constructing and conducting a 'practice as research'
project and illustrate approaches to be avoided as well as those which
should lead to successful outcomes.
Robin is Professor of Theatre and TV Drama at Manchester Metropolitan
University and currently a member of the RAE Panel for UoA 65, Drama, Dance
& Performing Arts. He is a member of the steering group of AVPhD and from
2001-2006 was an Advisory Board member of PARIP.
