That's a relly good point Jeremy,
We're linking to our feeds in the <head> section of relevant pages. The HTML is really simple - a <link> tag with rel="alternate", the feed type and URL
Eg. <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0" href="/collections/requestHandlers/doQuickSearch.cfm?searchterm=&authority=category&category=art&startrow=1&format=rss" />
If anyone else does implement newsfeeds via opensearch, I'd strongly recommend that they make them discoverable like this. Firstly, RSS buttons will show up in all recent web browsers and secondly, Googlebot will find the feeds when it spiders your web pages.
