Dear Lina,
I think stroke order is very important because it helps them to remember
the characters more easily, also essential for counting strokes when
using dictionary.
Of course we can't make sure that all the students will write every word
in the right order, but it is essential to tell them the rules of stroke
order--from left to right, from top to bottom etc, and train them at the
beginning to get into the habit of writing in orders.
We use animated characters to show them the order, or just get everyone
write in the air with their fingers (it's kinaesthetic as well).
After a period of training, most of the students can write independently
in the correct order.
So you are not fussy at all.

Subject: Chinese character, stroke order
Dear all,
Do you sometimes get people asking why stroke order maters??
Whenever I teach a character, I always write it out in steps, but not
all students would pay attention on them. Are there teachers out there
not teaching the orders at all? Am I being too fussy about writing
characters?
