Up Close and Personal: our changing roles in a digital learning age

Call for Papers, Presentations or Workshops:
We welcome submissions from librarians, IT professionals, learning technologists and
related fields, for papers, presentations and workshops for the NoWAL one day conference -
Up Close and Personal: our changing roles in a digital learning age.
The conference is being organized by NoWAL (North West Academic Libraries) in association
with SOLSTICE (Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at Edge Hill University) and
the University of Cumbria.
Submissions on developments, strategies and approaches at any level and scale are
invited, as are collaborative contributions from within one institution or across
institutions.
The Conference theme is centred on the transformations that are taking place in the way
we think, work and communicate as a result of the pervasive digital learning environment
that has become so much a part of our own, and our students', lives.
Submissions are being called for under the following categories:
● Innovative partnerships and relationships that are emerging to enhance e-learning
support and experiences
● The changing way that staff engage with their users for example via social software,
web services, personalized learning, Library 2.0 and the implications for practice
● New roles and skills emerging as a result of the implementation of technologies in
the physical, and/or virtual learning environment
● Skills development of our users in a digital world and the impact on our ways of
working
Themes are indicative; papers that relate in whole or in part to these themes are
encouraged. Each submission should aim to last for up to 45 minutes (including time for
questions/discussions).
Papers accepted will be compiled and made available at the conference and to the wider
sector; contributors will be asked to supply papers and presentations in advance of the
conference date. The submission will include an abstract (up to 250 words maximum) of the
paper/ presentation/ demonstration/ workshop.

The deadline for receipt of submissions is 9th June 2008. Submissions will be reviewed
and selected by a panel, and submission outcomes will be notified by 27th June 2008.
