Dear Members of the Geological Society Hydrogeology Group
I am sure that you have all become aware of the increasing importance of
ground source heating and cooling in the UK energy market and the role
that our profession has in ensuring its responsible use.
If you feel the need to get “up to speed” on this topic, we (Holymoor
Consultancy, GeoWarmth Heat Pumps Ltd and Carbon Zero Consulting) would
like to invite you to take part in the 6th Professional Short Course “An
Introduction to Ground Source Heating and Cooling” to be held at the
Dunston Innovation Centre, Chesterfield, Derbyshire on Tuesday 20th May
2008.
The course will cover:
• The subsurface as a heat reservoir
• What is a ground source heat pump?
• Options and applications for ground source heat pumps.
• Practical considerations
• The physics of subsurface heat flow, an introduction.
• Open and closed loop systems: introduction to design aspects.
• Thermal response testing.
• The UK experience: subsidy, economics and regulatory framework.
The course will run from 10 am to around 5 pm (registration from 9:30
am). The cost of the course will be £180 (VAT not charged), including
course lecture pack, refreshments and a buffet lunch. We hope to be able
to view the Innovation Centre's own ground source heat pump scheme
during the lunch break.
Further details and an application form can be found at
http://www.holymoor.co.uk/shortcourse6.htm.
If we receive your application for the course prior to 5th May 2008, you
