We had an excellent suggestion that in addition to the cataloger
scenarios we should also develop user and systems developer scenarios --
in other words, what functions those people perform that gives us some
idea of requirements for the data. Alistair Miles pointed out that we
keep looking at our metadata solely from the cataloger perspective,
which could account for some of the distortion we seem to achieve. This
is definitely a tendency in our field, but one that FRBR seems to try to
overcome with its user functions.
I created pages for these scenarios on the wiki, but was only able to
create one short developer scenario. It would be great if folks on this
list could contribute scenarios from their own experience.
As we mentioned before, the wiki software is unfortunately somewhat
broken, with the fix in the near but not immediate future. Please send
your scenarios to the list, or to Diane Hillmann or I, and we'll get
them posted.
