Dear all,
I'm a graduate student at the University of Warwick trying to get a new
climate change campaign off the ground and hoping for your support. I
sent details of the campaign to Mark Levene, who suggested I send these
details on to those on this mailing list for some critical advice.
The basic aim of the campaign is simple: to get the Prime Minister to make
a televised address to the nation on climate change. I think the address
would send a message to the country that this is an extremely serious
issue, and could be used to start a real debate between the Government and
people about how Britain should respond to this threat. I think that kind
of debate will help the country make the tough lifestyle choices on
climate change which lie ahead, and will be the catalyst for developing a
national action plan on climate change.
My view, from studying the politics of climate change, is that we need to
find simple, tangible goals to get the mainstream population behind if we
are to make climate change a politically-critical issue. This is what my
campaign seeks to do.
I am sending details of this campaign round to people like yourselves who
are concerned about climate change in the hope of some advice and,
perhaps, that you will be persuaded to sign the petition supporting my
campaign and to tell your friends and colleagues about it. The petition
is at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/letstalk or you can find out more at
www.letstalkgordon.org.uk.
If you want to discuss further, please don't hesitate to reply to this
message or email me at [log in to unmask]
With many thanks for your time
