Dear all,
I am a second year trainee clinical psychologist on the University of
Surrey course. Through both my clinical experience and wider reading I
have become increasingly interested in the social causes of distress. In
terms of developing more community based thinking and practice in my own
work I thought it would be invaluable to make contact with psychologists
using or interested in using community based approaches within my
geographical area (I am currently based in south west London).
Furthermore I would be very keen to do a specialist placement in a
service/with a supervisor using community focused approaches. if there
if you or anyone you know who would appreciate the input of an energetic
and enthusiastic trainee for 6 months beginning either in October 2008 or
April 2009 it would be great to hear from you! I am particularly
passionate about supporting people with intellectual disabilities to
expand the experiences available to them. Other areas of interest include
the use of group narrative therapy as a bridge to social activism and work
to support communities to live in more ecologically sustainable ways.
However I am very open to new and innovative ways to work with any client
group in order to illuminate power differentials, deconstruct "taken for
granted" discourses and support utilisation of available powers.
I hope to hear from you.
Best wishes,
Joel Parker
