Lancaster University Literacy Research Centre - Summer School: 14 - 18
July 2008
Linking Learning to Literacies: A Social Practice View
What do you know about learning, adult learners, and literacies?
Following the success of the 2007 Summer School Linking Learning to
Literacies, we are pleased to offering it again in July 2008 (14-18).
The Summer School will be of interest to any staff involved with Skills
for Life programmes, especially those who are designing or developing
Level 4 and 5 training to match the subject specifications introduced
last year. The course will be led by Sondra Cuban, and will utilise the
expertise of the internationally known Lancaster Literacy Research
Centre. Mary Hamilton, David Barton, and Anita Wilson will contribute to
the programme and will be available to consult about your particular
interests.
What participants told us about the 2007 Summer School
"Thank you all for the Summer School. It was a unique experience for
me. I learned a lot and would love to do it again! I enjoyed the
opportunity to meet and hear a wide range of up to date lecturers and
through the class and group discussion."
"So much enthusiasm and detailed preparation was impressive. The varied
and stimulating approaches were inspiring. I have even used You-Tube in
my own classrooms since with great success!"
We will explore the following topics:
* Learning and the Adult Learner
* Literacy Learning Provision
* Mapping Learning Theories onto Literacy Theories
* Literacy Learning Practices - Methods in Contexts
* Learning Theories, Literacy Policies and Research
The summer school will be of interest to practitioners, managers,
researchers and those interested in adult learning. It will provide an
opportunity to meet people working in a similar field, develop a new
network of colleagues and friends, and provide an opportunity to deepen
your knowledge of adult pedagogy.
